Frequently Asked Questions

New Jersey is the second most popular gambling destination in the United States and has long offered gambling and other betting options. A lottery was organized in the 17th century to fund the military during the American Revolution, and the state also has the oldest racetrack in the United States. The industry went further in 1976 when the voters approved the construction of casinos in Atlantic City.

While Las Vegas is surrounded by deserts, Atlantic City is located by the sea and thanks to the promenade, the tourist community thrives. The existence of commercial casinos proved to be an important part of the puzzle and exponentially increased tourism and money in the state.

The main difference between the two states is that Nevada allows commercial casinos throughout the state, while gambling in New Jersey only includes Atlantic City. Recently, attempts have been made to expand commercial casinos to other parts of the state, which will no doubt harm the city, but these attempts have so far failed.

It's no surprise that New Jersey is one of the freest states in the US gambling area. They were faster than most states at legalizing and regulating NJ online casinos, although (at the time), it was unclear whether they could legally do so or not. In the end, it's legal while a player is playing in New Jersey.

In addition to poker, there is no legalized and regulated online gaming in Nevada. Therefore, New Jersey is less limited in this area. Besides, there are no state lotteries in Nevada. Although the state has other forms of gambling, the lottery works rather well.

The state allows people to play charity games, i.e. bingo and raffles, but the relevant laws are somewhat complicated. In any case, charity games are allowed.

New Jersey Online Gambling

New Jersey is one of the few (but fastest-growing) states where online gambling is legalized and regulated. The rules for obtaining a license are that your online casino must be directly or contractually connected to one of the brick and mortar casinos to offer online casino services in New Jersey. For this reason, casinos such as 888 Casino can operate in New Jersey, although there is no physically corresponding casino.

Many offshore online casinos prefer to work in New Jersey, although some of those have decided to leave the United States because of the mandatory requirement to supply online gaming via real casinos. One such example is Bovada. It is believed that this can be done to sometimes work in a physical casino in these states, but this is only an assumption.

Concerning the fines for illegal gambling, illegal gambling includes participation in gambling, which has not been expressly approved by the state. The big problem is that the rules are written so that they only apply to operators. The law does not concern the players, no matter what. As a result, a player can play at any NJ online casino abroad or in the state.

The following New Jersey online gaming sites are currently approved for 24-hour activities:

  • Unibet NJ Casino;
  • Caesars Casino;
  • Tropicana Casino;
  • Virgin Casino;
  • Borgata Casino;
  • Party Casino;
  • Pala Casino;
  • Harrahs Online Casino;
  • US 888 Casino;
  • Golden Nugget;
  • Resorts Online Casino;
  • SugarHouse Online Casino;
  • PokerStars NJ;
  • Ocean Resort Online;
  • Hard Rock Online;
  • Mohegan Sun Online;
  • PlayMGM;
  • Betfair NJ;
  • DraftKings Casino;
  • BetAmerica;
  • BetMGM.

Brick and Mortar Casinos in New Jersey

Atlantic City is currently the only city in New Jersey licensed to use land-based casinos. Therefore, we will not list this city under a private casino as it will not be necessary. Some Atlantic City casinos have been closed forever or bought and renamed, like Trump Taj Mahal was bought by Hard Rock International. Likewise, Revel became Ocean Resort.

Casinos closed since 2000: Claridge Casino and Hotels (currently only one hotel), Revel (now Ocean Resort), Atlantic Club, Sands, Trump Plaza, Trump Taj Mahal (now Hard Rock Atlantic City), and Showboat (currently only one hotel). Some casinos remained in operation:

Caesars Casino

Caesars has become a familiar name for gambling destinations for two reasons: Caesars Atlantic City and Caesars Palace Las Vegas. It's hard to imagine that the Caesars logo can’t be seen in either city, and anyone who knows the history of American gambling knows the brand.

Caesars Entertainment (expected to merge with El Dorado Resorts) does not own Caesars Atlantic City. As with Bally, the ownership is transferred to Vici Properties and leased to Caesars Entertainment to operate.

The location includes approximately 150,000 square meters of gaming space, more than 3,000 combined slot machines, video keno, and video poker as well as about 120 table games. The poker room was once owned, but it is no longer the case. The nearest poker room is in Bally and the largest in town is Borgata. The hotel has 1140 rooms and suites.

With the Roman theme, there were times when Caesars was considered the most impressive real estate in Atlantic City, and it's worth visiting even if you're not staying or playing there. Although the newer Borgata is more appealing, Caesar is still an impressive property.

Everyone says the resort charge is over $ 20 a night and the website doesn't specify the service charged for. If that is the case, most likely it means wireless internet and local calls... why pretend you get something for it? An on-site fitness center and a seasonal outdoor pool are available on site. However, there is a charge for using the pool. That being said, the amenities are standard everywhere.

The site claims to have more than 2,000 slot machines, but other sources say their number is 3,000. In any case, they have a lot of them.

Caesars large selection of table games covers Blackjack, Craps, Roulette, Big Six, EZ Baccarat, Minibaccarat, Midi Baccarat, Pai Gow, Poker, Spanish 21, Three Card Poker, Sic Bo , Let it Ride, Mississippi Stud, Ultimate Texas Hold'em, High Card Flush, and Asia Poker. Even if you visit a casino of this size, we recommend that you call ahead to find out the hours of playing special games. This is not likely to take place around the clock.

Top restaurants include Nero’s Steakhouse, Morton Steakhouse, and Buddakan. The average restaurants include Gordon Ramsey Pub & Grill, Roma Café (casual dining), Kiwi Noodle House, Continental, and Phillips Seafood Market.

To sum up, Caesars has everything you could want for a vacation with many different options on an impressive resort property.

Golden Nugget Casino

Golden Nugget Atlantic City was initially opened as Trump Castle, renamed Trump Marina and was taken over by Landry's Inc. in 2011 when it turned into The Golden Nugget.

Golden Nugget is one of the city's most successful casinos, while other casinos in the area have been closed. To attract players, Golden Nugget will immediately give them free rooms, free play, and other amenities. It works staggeringly because Golden Nugget has been a casino generating revenue for almost a decade.

Golden Nugget also benefits from legalized and regulated online gambling by offering attractive incentives for new players and actively promoting incentives for returning players. Also, Golden Nugget is the first Atlantic City casino to offer online games with live dealers. Visitors to the property on the ground floor from the garage can see through the window how these live dealers work.

The gambling area covers 74,252 square feet and is present almost anywhere on that floor of the hotel. In addition to the restaurant on that floor, other restaurants are built so that the gambling area is visible both from them and from the hotel check-in area. Clever.

The theater was designed for 462 seats and the ballroom for 2000. Golden Nugget also has a 24,000-seater lounge for favorite players. The visitors have free access to the pool on the rooftop, which also has a hot tub. There is also a relaxation area and many different activities for children. The hotel also has a recreation area on the ground floor, where there is more to offer to children.

Unfortunately, Golden Nugget also charges a total of $ 20 a night as a resort fee.

The casino has about 1,500 combined slots, video poker, and video keno. The denominations range from several cents to hundreds, and there is also a high-limit room that includes more than 100 slots. If you want to see what we are talking about, just search Youtube on NJSlotsGuy, as many of his videos have been recorded at Golden Nugget. Golden Nugget Casino also has a list of slots on its website.

Only some of the table games can be played late in the evening. So you can call ahead to find out the general opening hours.

Atlantic City's poker room is a small poker room with a limited offer. On the other hand, the sports bets area is impressive in size and placed in the atrium, because the hotel was not originally designed for sports betting.

Restaurants include Vick and Anthony (Steakhouse), an Italian and an Asian restaurant, Bills Bar and Burge, and Beans and Bread.

Tropicana Casino

Tropicana Atlantic City was owned by Icahn Enterprises until it was sold out (to Gaming and Leisure Properties, then leased to El Dorado Resort.

Opened in 1981, this hotel has 2364 guest rooms and suites, along with a 75,000m2 gaming area at the end of the boardwalk. Ocean Resort and Casino complete the other end. If you've ever heard someone say that it is difficult to find the entry and exit of a casino, then Tropicana is a great example.

The $ 17 resort charge and $ 5/day occupancy fee is higher on the website than with Ocean Resort.

  • There are a total of 33 restaurants - from fast food to casual and gourmet dishes.
  • Over 2400 slot machines.
  • Eleven different game types, including an Asian game room.
  • Ten bars.

We recommend that you only visit this hotel if accommodation and lodging costs are included in the price when booking.

Sports betting in New Jersey

In 2012, a law passed in New Jersey to approve sports betting. Shortly thereafter, NCAA, NBA, NFL, NHL, and MLB filed a federal lawsuit against the state to prevent this. The judge ruled in favor of the plaintiffs and banned New Jersey from providing sports betting, and the case kept being appealed. So far, you can bet legally on sports in the state.

Horse Racing

In New Jersey, both live and simulcast bets can be made on horse races. There are currently three racetracks in New Jersey.

Conclusions

Anyone going to or living in New Jersey could not ask for more! As they say, "What will you give to a man who already has it all?"

The only way New Jersey is better suited for gaming is through casinos outside Atlantic City. Other than this, perhaps a limited number of video lottery halls will be fine.

As of November 2013, players can legally register with a few gambling sites registered in New Jersey and the list of casinos where players can register an account is big. Caesars Interactive is reaping the speedy success of the New Jersey Internet law because Caesars Entertainment owns several large land-based casinos in Atlantic City. Borgata owns the PartyPoker and Pala Online Casino brands, although 50% of the company is owned by Boyd Gaming other than Paradise, Nevada and 50% is owned by MGM Resorts International.

The Tropicana Casino and Resort operate both Virgin and Tropicana NJ online casinos. Golden Nugget Atlantic City has its website, with the same name as its land-based casino: Golden Nugget as well as two other brands, Betfair NJ and SugarHouse Online. Casino Resort Hotel is partnering with Mohegan Sun and PokerStars on the online front, but PokerStars has suspended the game in New Jersey for up to 2 years, so this activity has only recently been launched. Atlantic Club will not have an online partner because Caesars and Tropicana have split their properties and closed the club.

There are 10 more U.S. states that consider expanding or enacting online gambling laws. These laws can extend online gambling throughout the United States. Currently, states like California, Mississippi, Louisiana, Illinois, Hawaii, and New York are considering legalizing online casinos.
